Youth camp 2006 (15th - 19th Dec)
Now i am back to share my experience in the youth camp it was really a great experince i learn a lot of things. I really really had a great time there being a facilitator. I wanted to share this testimony about me being a facilitator.
This is my first time facilitating a church youth camp, i had a great time with the participant. I remember everytime when i go for church camp i am always the participant. Let me now share about how i feel being a facilitator in the youth camp. I really wanna thank God giving me the opportunity to be a facil in this Youth camp. Since after my comfirmation in Nativity Church i went to CTK and join a youth group and since then i had always wanted to do something in church like example being a facil in a camp and finally God has hear my calling.
ON 15TH DEC (FRI)
All ex-co, helpers and facils was there in the campsite at St Theresa Retreat centre. Some of us like Joanna, me, Audrey and Daisy were there about 4plus to help in the clearing up of the campsite. I mopped the floor and nearly fell while mopping....hahhaha. Besides clearing up the place we also played some "childhood games" and played "lame jokes" during this time of fun laughter peace and joy, Gerri Ngui and Melvyn.v came and we played "button you must wander" and Melvyn entertained us with lame joke from joke book. haha. After which we ordered Mac and ate for dinner. At about 83o pm to about 9pm we started our Spiritual Preparation led by Hilary and it was a spirit-filled session. During the session we had to share with 2 people on a time that we refuse God. I wanted to share with Joanna and Addison but Hil suggested that we should share with someone whom we are not close with so in the end i shared with Beverly and Timothy. After the session we had debrief for the next day programme and it ended quite late and we the ex-co, helpers and facils learned a camp dance entitled "We go Together", it was fun learning it :) In the end we slept at about nearing to 4am in the morning and had to wake up at 6 latest to head down and recieve the participant. During our sleeping time i was so worried for the next day because its a day where i have to work with the youth i was so afraid,question kept flashing into my mind "how if the youth are difficult to manage", "how if i do or say something wrong to the participant", "how if i give wrong instruction", : how if i have left them with a bad impression" question kept coming and i could not get to sleep. In the end I said a short prayer and i nearly broke down into tears.
1ST DAY -16th DEC 2006
We headed down to CTK AT 645. The amount of participants was about 30 to 30 plus. We first had a story followed bt heading down to East Coast Park for games. Before the games started the participant were broken down into groups and i was the facil with Edward Chia in Group 1. At first it was really difficult for me to work with the group all of them were quiet and not willing to do what is told to them and i really needed someone to be there to help me, i am really at a lost at that point of time. My group participant just kept going to their own clique in other group and it was really difficult to handle. During the station games, they were actually reluctant to paricipate but i am really glad that Edward helped me out by hypering up the group. At night i prayed again and asked God to be my guide, let me be patient and be more tolerant and prayed that tomorrow would be a better day for me.
2ND DAY -17TH DEC 2006
On this day was the VIVO CHALLENGE. The objective of this game was to allow group to work together as one, be able to communicate and be bonded together. During this challenge JAMES AND BENJAMIN was attached to my group. I really wanna thank them for helping me and edward out, without them the group would not be so open and able to complete the activity so fast and efficient. THANKS JAMES AND BEN. During this challenge i think i was at my lowest some menbers in the group i shall not mention names i really cant tolerate, although i did not show it but i was really feeling very down and stress... i really dont know what to do.......i did not tell facils who are in my group, i just talk when its neccessary. But during the night debrief i did not know that James and Edward was feeling the same way as i was during the activities. 2 of the participant just dont want to cooperate, one will just stray away as and when he/she like and the other one just kept irritating the group and complaining when the rest is doing more things than she/he was. At night debrief we share and told Gerry Teo and Nick senior. Nick senior told James and i that those 2 partcipant need alot of attention spend. So i decided to try to use the method that Nick senior had told us for the next day activity.
3RD DAY-18TH DEC 2006
The activity was a puzzle treasure hunt. Its was about we are many part but we are all one body. During this day, the group was more bonded but once in a while complain occurs and one gets angry. But the games had really brought the group together and i think their sharing was good......My group participant was really open in the group and i was touched by Sylvester sharing because it really help me reflect on my personal life and i also took this chance to share my own life experience and through my sharing i have also touch one of my participant and from this sharing she realised that family love is very important. But the sad thing is that one of my group participant didnt want to share and we tried helping her but she does not seem to want to hear what we the facils say and advise her on.
4TH DAY- 19TH DEC 2006
Its the day we break camp and during this day we had affirmation and sharing about the experience in camp.....many of the participants had shared that this camp was a worth while camp and they was reluctant to go home...... i really hope that the campers had brough home something priceless back with them and I really wanna thank God for letting me have the chance of being a facil and to nurture them to be christ like and drawing them close to God :) youth camp was a really a great experience for me!!!!
